Arts on the Green
IPS (Indianapolis Public Schools) Students
Given Hands-On Experience In Theatrical Arts
On the last Saturday in April 2009, we headed to Arsenal Tech High School for
the 16th annual ARTS ON THE GREEN, a spectacular celebration of the fine arts.
Young artists shared their emerging talents in the visual and performing arts.
For the first time, Arsenal Tech opened this annual event to outside arts
organizations, and The Sapphire Theatre Company was there to help “create a
scene.”
Students, parents, and members of the community put brushes to a three-paneled
backdrop, swirling various shades of blue into creative, collaborative designs.
This first-hand experience of the excitement and joy the arts can bring was a
profound reminder of the importance of the arts in our education system.
Visual and performing arts provide inspiration as well as a positive outlet for
emotions needing expression. Many thanks to the children of all ages who painted
with us. We are grateful to you, and to the organizers of ARTS ON THE GREEN for
the opportunity to carry out our mission to enrich the human spirit and
contribute to the cultural growth through the promotion of the arts.
